My onboard NIC is not supported under 710 without a kernel upgrade. What is the best/easiest way to install:

a) Install 2 PCI NIC, upgrade kernel, remove 1 PCI NIC
b) Install 1 PCI NIC, configure single NIC setup, upgrade kernel, switch to double NIC setup.

If a), what manual configuration is necessary following removing the PCI NIC?

I'm planning on giving 0810 a try in a few weeks but I don't have time at the moment to fiddle with an alpha release. My gf is patiently waiting for the mess of "computer guts" in the living room to get cleaned up Tongue

Thanks,

Dave

Hi,

Did you look at the Unrecognized NIC wiki?

What kind of NIC is it?

It will probably actually be quicker for you to do the 0810 install. In either case, you will also need to upgrade alsa if you plan on using the onboard sound.
But if you go ahead with the 0710 install, I would go with your option #2 it should be the easiest since youll need the extra pci nic anyway.

If I go with option b), do I need to do the CD install?

I.e install kubuntu 0710, upgrade kernel so that I have onboard NIC and PCI NIC recognized, install linuxmce?

Or can I use the DVD install and upgrade the kernel after the whole process finishes? .

Yes, I checked it out. There's no kernel module available from what I can tell. I understand it's a Realtek 8211 chipset.

I would be very interested if you could report back which route you take and how you get on.  I have just purchased the same motherboard and am trying to decide between 710 and 810!

I ended up going with 810 since 710 was giving me piles of trouble. Aside from my Fiire remote not working and a few of my AVIs not playing, everything seems to be running smoothly.

Contrary to the wiki, I had to install restricted drivers before running the lmce install scripts.

Have you managed to get audio over HDMI working?  Im thinking I am going to go straight for 810 as it seems the easiest way with this board

I don't have a HDMI TV or Receiver so I have no way of testing its functionality, sorry.
