Preventing burn-in by onscreen messages

Several times I have had my plasma screen turned on with a message displayed by the orbiter for hours. This static image, on top of the screensaver, could burn in the screen. Fortunately, aside from some temporary ghost images, no permanent effects for me.

But I do think it's preferable if the screensaver displays <b>on top of</b> the orbiter messages.

Also, somewhat related, I have had static DVD menus leave ghost images. (Kids watch movie, then leave everything on after movie ends...) The screen saver did not activate because the DVD was still "playing". Not sure how to fix that easily... We don't want a screensaver during actual movie playback .

I agree, there should be a timeout for the messages, so that the screensaver can come on over them.

As far as DVD, I wonder if there is a way to implement a DVD player screen saver or auto-off the player after too long at the menu so that pluto's screen saver will activate. Oh how I wish I could code

there is a way to turn these messages off I just cant remember how, or what you need to search for, but its out there. Most of these messages are un-important anyway so you wont be missing out.

Domodude, why don't you have LMCE controlling your TV power? It sends a power off command after a period of time, unless media is playing.

That does not help if it is a static DVD menu, does it.

Good point, see Posde's reply though. Also, there are quite a few people I think that do not have everything setup the way they want. Controlling my TV is definitely where I want to end up but it hasn't happened yet.

I do see that the screen saver is active, it should just display on top of the message :^)

I am not too happy with message boxes appearing on the MDs as well.

But you really should include your TV into the LMCE picture. It is SO nice, to have LMCE take care of turning on, tuning in, and adjusting the TV set to each program, and adjusting the receiver based upon listening to music, or watching a DVD. That's what LMCE is about. To have control over the environment, without the need for other remotes etc.

Regarding message boxes: There is an option to only show some messages on an Orbiter. You might want to play with that.

In Web Admin each Orbiter has an attribute called 'Device Filter Level' by default this is set to 'all'. You can change this to 'important' which will only then display very important info...like Disk Spece low messages etc. All other will be suppressed. Another possibility is to se this attribute to 'none'. Then no alerts will be displayed at all.

However this will not 'fix' the issue of a DVD menu getting stuck on screen...
