I was thinking that when 810 is released, it might be nice to change up the forum a little and wanted to know if anyone else shared my opinion. It seems to me that our channels aren't very specific, which makes it harder to find info. So i would suggest something along the lines of:
1. General Discussion/ Users
2. Media
3. Lighting
4. Climate
5. Telecom
6. Security
7. Developers
8. Install issues
9. Feature Requests Roadmap
10. 710/ Archive
I think the 810 release would be the perfect time to implement this because we could start with a blank slate, put all of the current info into the archive, and then new posts going forward would be related to the new release (avoids the question of "are you talking about 710 or 810?"). I think this would help out with organization and might keep down all the repeatative questions, also it might be a little less overwhelming for new members to the forum. Plus now that we have moderators it will be much easier to move threads into their proper channel if they are started in the wrong place.
Just a thought.

I fully support this idea  Possibly add an additional forum called watercooler or some such as an off topic place for members to build rapport with each other. and dont forget to kep the marketplace. |

I was thinking about suggesting basically the same thing but with me being new to the forums I figured I would be ignored. cause half of the people I think are using 810 and the other half are using 710. You just aren't sure how to answer people based on thier questions. That is a great idea!

Excellent idea!
Now I realize I am opening a can of worms, but would it be practical to have a similar basic navigational layout in the wiki, howto's and other documentation? Since this is such a large, comprehensive product, I think it would be nice to have as much homogeneity as possible...

I agree with the kyrs and with Pnuts. I 2nd the "Water cooler" or "Off Topic" forum as well. It might also be a great place to put the "photos of my setup" kinda thing. Nothing makes people want HA more than seeing other people's kick-ass house setup!

I do not like to have too many subforum. I suggest to limit it to three maximum four sub-boards. Otherwise the admins will have a hell of a time to put stuff into the right categories. Look at the archive, what Pluto used to have. IMHO those are too many boards. Users (containing general discussions)

I'm not sure. I quite like the very active users category and looking through varied posts.
The problem with splitting it is that some channels will have only a few posts and be rarely visited. Replies may be slow. People will continue using 'users' for all posts.
I think combining lesser used channels might help. I like the idea of splitting 710 (archive) vs 810.
