Do you have an additional nic in your MD ? if so  disable it in bios.
Or do you have one of those strange nics that give you different mac addresses?

Hi Tim,

This is the strange bit. The motherboard has two builtin NICs. I can turn off both, or turn on both, so all I could do was disable the two onboad ones. I added a PCI NIC. So I should think I have in effect one NIC.
But,
1. That one NIC is presented as eth1, not eth0!
2. Once initrd is loaded, one of the onboard NICs is presented as eth0, and the boot process comes to a grinding halt.

Boris, I'll try to delete the MD, and start over tonight. We'll see what happens.

Thanks
Mark

Look in edit accordingly or simply delete the contents and reboot
it should add the new nic as eth0

/usr/pluto/diskless/##/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Tim,

That file is empty.
Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/diskless/219/etc/udev/rules.d$ cat 70-persistent-net.rules
# This file maintains persistent names for network interfaces.
# See udev(7) for syntax.
#
# Entries are automatically added by the 75-persistent-net-generator.rules
# file; however you are also free to add your own entries.

Surprising, as you say that it should be generated automatically. Is there something I should put in it?

In the mean time, I will have the MD recreated.

Cheers
Mark

It probably never got to where that file is generated.

That's what I am afraid of. Unfortunately, we may never know because after I checked the powered on MD after watching a movie, it was really hot. Since it had crashed due to overheating, I gave it some time to cool down but 10 minutes cooldown has not been enough. Hope I didn't fry it.  >:(

At the very least I will need to work on cooling. It's a nexus psile case, not the best airflow :^(

If I can revive this thing, I will let you guys know.
