Media Pc with front touch panel
« on: January 10, 2009, 12:28:02 pm »
Hi!

I want to build a Media PC with a touch panel front for music so that if I want to hear music I don't have to switch the Tv on.
Is it possible with linuxmce?
should I use the panel as second display?
And annother question is a Ati HD 4350 enough for smooth hd playback?

I think some members have reported to have a second x-screen with a UI1-orbiter running on a second screen. This scenario would be perfect for your use-case but needs some hacking because it is not supported out of the box.

Regarding your GPU: go for nvidia since ATI is not supported yet.

Dude, don't waste your money like that.

Contact tkmedia on the forums to get a pad orbiter. and use that as your primary control.

This will allow you to select music without powering on the TV.

You can also use:

* A Nokia N810
* A cell phone
* A laptop running the orbiter software
* A PDA running the orbiter software
* A cisco 7970

etc.

don't waste your money on a bloody stupid touch screen on the case.

What tschak909 suggested will likely suit your needs best, other then that:

The ATI card can probably be made to work by installing and configuring the latest ATI drivers manually up to UI2+masking (so no transparancy, which is considered to be overrated by many people anyway).

I don't recall anyone ever sucessfully reporting the use of a second display with LMCE, but in theory that should be possible too, however I doubt you'll want to  spend that much time and effort on it.

Does anyone has an idea how to get seperate x-screen with ui1 on one monitor and ui2 on the 2nd monitor to work?

I have a xorg.conf with two layouts (layout0 and layout1). Both layouts work perfectly. The first one is starting the small builtin monitor with the touchscreen "jailed" on this screen. The second layout is using an attached usb mouse and the big monitor. However, if I modify kdmrc to make use of this two layouts, only the first layout is used.

I've tried several "Multiseat" examples, but none of them really worked.
