Is it really that hard to read the few posts in this thread?

No  its not hard.... I just want to make sure. Not being an IT profesional I just want to double check.

I trade dervivatives for a living I'm sure you'll get them in 5 min too. How's your 401k? I'm sure you understand every single part of it and don't need to ask obvious things as they are clearly written in the prospectus... don't ya?

Well I understand that all that money nonsense where people earn big amounts without producing or contributing anything is a huge fraud, and that's all I need to know about it.  Other then that... what possy said.

Not everyone earns the millions shown on cnn... otherwise I would buy a pluto appliance... I just wanted to exemplify that something simple and apparent to you may not be that simple and apparent to the rest of the world.

Zaerc....In the end.... Do you think I will need to wake up on lan if it is a hybrid box? Im sure that a "LinuxMCE God" will know.

I have this board for a hybrid and i can't get sound. Analog sound crackles and has an echo, and no sound through hdmi. Also can't get the onboard nic to work but haven't really played with it (there's a wiki for it)

Well, I finally got it to work, had to update the display drivers and oce it was done, AVWizard went smooth with no problems.
But now there's a new problem. The sound (SPDIF via optical) is vary bad. A lot of crackle noise, distortion and what not.
Every thing seems to work without any issues accept for this.
lspci gives out a bunch of unknown nvidia devices.
Any one encounter this ?

OK. Here's the latest.
I updated the Alsa to ver. 1.0.18a.
The update went smoothly with no errors of any kind.
I tried playing a movie after the update but the sound behaved the same. I then decided to take a peak at the Alsa mixer. I opened that and every thing seems correct, nothing muted etc. So I tried to play the movie again after exiting the alsa mixer, and to my big surprise, suddenly every thing was playing correctly.
I then went on testing some other files and here's the deal up to now: a DolbyDigital avi plays fine, a DTS disc rip plays fine, a 1080p mkv sounds crappy, sara sounds crappy, any audio file sounds crappy and that's all I tried so far.
It seems weird to me that some stuff plays well and some doesn't but I haven't had the time to continue checking.
Any ideas any one ?

401k? Asking Zaerc about that probably goes someway to explaning the rest of the world's problems.... why the automatic assumption that Zaerc is American? (he's not, he's Dutch) why the automatic assumption that everybody would understand that a 401k is a U.S. retirement plan (we do, but that is a separate issue!)

The world does continue, and extend beyond the borders of the contiguous-48... this forum contains active members from the Americas, Europe/UK, Africa, Asia and Oceania, when people make "local" references they usually make an attempt to ensure "it translates". Go to Wikipedia and look up "world view" in their style guides...

Andrew - is this specific to this board or generally for crackle? I still get it in KDE, but perfect sound in LMCE....

Andrew, I checked everything and all those packeges on my system are the correct ver. accept for libsdl1.2debian which is 1.2.11-9.
and I  can't find a newer ver.
There is however a packege named libsdl1.2debian-pluto-all 1.2.12-1 which can be installed. Did you mean this one by any chance?

Digital audio works (though the A/V wizard could said it did not support DTS).  I got a $75 refurbished Sony receiver, so maybe that was broken and I just found out.  I only got crackling with audio from CDs.  I'll have to try updating the ALSA drivers.

We have only seen this problem on this specific motherboard... and yes you might still hear some slight artifacts in audio from the KDE Desktop

I now have the sound working but only through SPDIF. Had to upgrade the kernel version to 2.6.28, then install latest alsa drivers (18a). No crackle.
