Wired/wireless Advanced Security System / SA Q-16

Hi,

I have a "Wired/wireless Advanced Security System" that can be pluged into a computer usb port, i did have drivers for windows but have lost them. would anyone know if this is compatible with linuxmce?

When i plug this in to Linuxmce and under USB Devices it is listed as Global Horizons Advance Security System, But how do i get this to work in Linuxmce?

Any sujestions would be greatful.

We currently do not have a device template for this device. But if you have protocol specifications etc, a driver can be created in the web admin using the Generic Serial Device (GSD) driver, which there is a page on the wiki on making new drivers with GSD.

I will have a play with that and see what happens.

When you say "protocol specifications" do you mean what the alarm can do through a computer? i.e. change the alarm code, arm/disarm ect...

Ok I have just received the windows dirvers for this alarm in the post today, would anyone beable to tell if there is anyway i can use these in Linuxmce instead if creating my own & having to learn Ruby?

Just so you know im very new to linux, im finding my way round though, but still dont know how to add dirvers to a device.

No. you will need to either write the drivers, or pay someone else to write them.

Can you recommend any websites to learn on how you create usb drivers for linux? (So i can use it with Linuxmce)

In the last couple of days I'v done the basics on Ruby I get how that works, I'm now using a USB sniffer in windows to see what the data is being sent and received whilst using the alarm, the output doesn't make sence yet. Then i need to figure out how to view the code in the windows drivers to get the Protocols.

I must be mad, why don't I just buy a compatible alarm. (Any recommendations)

it's a lot simpler if you can contact the manufacturer and get a protocol specification document.

I have just emailed the company that made the windows drivers to see if they help with the protocol specs
