I have been lacking one critical component that I need to figure out.  How to control my cable box which requires an IR Blaster to control.  My cable company Comcast Nashville has disabled the serial port.  I have in the past controlled to box with a Home Brew Transmitter for LIRC, but I have never been able to get it to work. Please see the following post for more information.  http://plutohome.com/support/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=621

I have also looked at using pluto to control, but I have no Idea how to set this up.  I am searching for a fix.  Ideally, I would like to have a media director in each room with the cable boxes and control them with the MD, but I am currently lacking the ability to control the boxes.

Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Our LIRC wrapper doesn't support transmitting IR. We use another device for IR signals, the Global Cache gc100.

I am interested in an alternative to the gc100, and saw this thread.

Can Tira, USB-UIRT, etc... be used to control my Receiver or TV?

Thanks!

Hi Radu,

I seem to remember someone (may be Dan G or possibly you ;-) ) saying that the LIRC wrappers were being updated to support transmitting IR. We use MS Transceivers (each one comes with 2 IR emiiters on extension leads) with mce_usb on each MD and would really like to be able to use them to control devices. With all the Intel ViiV based products starting to be available which have on board IR Transmitters this will become a very powerful capability we think.

Can you update us on status of supporting IR Transmitters under the Pluto LIRC wrappers?

Cheers

Andrew
