i was wondering if it is possible to add custom applications to the media centers menu. I am intersted in building the ultimate no fuss pc for my gran and i am looking for an operating system that has nothing but the applications on start up ie no taskbar or other stuff. ideally i would like her to be able to turn the pc on a and see several options similar to a media centers mai9n menu. however instead of tv, radio etc it would be
Firefox
Thunderbird
Skype
Word
Pictures
Music
Viseos
DVD
eBooks
Documents
That then would provide the most simplified desktop/base to run everything she needs off of.
I have been looking around and most of the set ups people have generated for people with similar needs have used customised standard distro with desktop/taskbar enviroments. i really dont want any of that and it is why i ask if it is possible to use lmce as a base for this.
i am not brilliant with linux otherwise i am sure i could write it myself (dam have to learn more)

Yep i agree with Posde... look at the the ASUS Eee PC line as they come with ExpressGate Linux build in... see here for more info;
http://www.splashtop.com/This has very limited UI and set of apps but is dead simple to use and is almost instantly available on power-up.
