Jumbo Packets?
« on: February 20, 2006, 06:57:13 pm »
Are there any know issues with jumbo packets?

Whenenver I set the MTU >1540 the NIC becomes unresponsive (can't even ping).  In a previous life this h/w was windoze, and I did not have issues with jumbo packets.  The MTU on the NIC can be set as high as 16110, though my switch can only handle 9K.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
-Ted

No known issues (yet). What is the network card model that gives you trouble?

Okay, after further testing, it looks like it's the gig cards that are misbehaving.  I can bump down the MTU on my 3c509 without incident.  If I change the MTU on the gig cards (up or down), those ports hang.

The gig cards in question are:
intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Port Server Adapter
intel PRO/1000 XT

The cards work without incident at the default MTU.
