multiple remotes (IR/BT) connected to core

I'm investigating how to minimize power usage of MD's. My idea is to turn on/off by remote, so the remote has to keep working, as well as 'follow me'.
Is it possible to connect all the remote control receivers (IR and or Bluetooth) to the core instead of the media directors and have them control the MD's as well?
