I wasn't really keen on spending $200+ to get a fiire chief all the way to Australia so went with the Gyration Remote GYR3101US (Non-Fiire Chief) pictured here: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/images/5/56/Gyration-GYR3101US-codes.png
It works pretty well. Not all the keys are mapped, but with the notable exception of the absolute scrolling not working (relative is fine) - I find it very useful for day to day use (much easier/faster than the Nokia n810 orbiter)... The keys are mapped in a slightly odd config but you get used to it pretty quickly. From http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Using_the_Gyration_Remote_GYR3101US_(Non-Fiire_Chief)
(you can map these to the above image):
keycode 176 = F8
keycode 174 = F6
keycode 97 = F7
keycode 110 = P
keycode 177 = R
keycode 153 = Z
keycode 144 = Q
keycode 134 = I
keycode 160 = F9
keycode 237 = Y
So... the Big Green MCE button = F7 Menu button
The + Volume button = F8 (Volume/Lighting button "ambience")
The - Volume button = F6 (Channel/Chapter FFWD/RWD/PAUSE menu)
Of course you can remap these.
Long story short - yes you can practive with the F6-8 keys and a mouse. Same thing...
Can't help you much with the coloured button remote (not really sure which one this is?).
