Hi,

I was wondering if there were plans for a new version of LinuxMCE coming out anytime soon?

We are preparing for the next release of Kubuntu, which will be 0810, released in October. Our release will happen then, or sometime after that.

I haven't looked at that part of the code base, yet. Daniel had been rolling in a ton of patches as recently as a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure. You may want to check out linuxmce-0810 branch on charonmedia and look in the ubuntu folder to see which version is being used.

According to sources close to LinuxMCE and MythTV it will use a 0.21. http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Development_Goals_for_LinuxMCE_0804

I am not sure, but try the DeviceTemplate2php exporter to save your devices. Maybe it will help you save YOUR investment.

I bought a Shuttle barebones box a while back with integrated nVidia chipset.  Couldn't get the sound or ethernet to work in 7.10.  All my searches led me to understand that my chipset should be supported out of the box.  Installed Kubuntu 8.04 and all worked fine.  So until I have some extra time off, I haven't bothered to fool with it.  Looks like an MCE 0810 would bypass all of this for me.  Guess I'll keep toying around with my other machines and see how this turns out.  Pretty exciting, at any rate...

benztech,

if sound is not working, you might want to take a look at the Sound Cards wiki entry. Especially the CK804 nvidia chipset does have quirks now and then. Especially over S/P-DIF as (K)Ubuntu 0710 contains a bug in there alsa configuration.

That thought had definitely crossed my mind.  However, the Shuttle box is limited to only two PCI slots due to its small form factor.  I'm using one for the capture card and the other for a second NIC (this was supposed to be a hybrid type setup).  Come to think of it, I could probably go to a USB capture card and free up a slot.  Or build a dedicated core and also negate the need for a second NIC.  Just goes to show that there are always options.  Smiley

so its been a while, any updates on 8.10 MCE, I really like the new version of Kubuntu with its ease of install and new features. I have tried 7.10 multiple times on multiple PC's and havent had a succesful install yet.
