Compatible Mobo
« on: August 31, 2008, 12:40:20 am »
Hi Everyone,

Im fairly new to linux, Ive only been running ubuntu on my computers for 3 months now.

I'd like to try out linuxmce so I've decided to build a core. Ive spent the week looking thru the wiki for a suitable mobo, everytime I find one that seems ok, then I have trouble finding it in stock or cannot find that exact model number.

Can anyone suggest a good mobo (plug & play preferable), that is still fairly current.

The rest of my Core will be:

AMD Athlon64 X2 Dual Core 5200+
2 x 1GB DDR2-800
Seagate 500GB Sata Hard Drive
Asus DVD-RW
Level One PCI 10/100 Realtek 8139 NIC
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR4000 PCI HD Quad-mode TV Receiver
Hauppauge WinTV-NovaT500 HD PCI Dual Tuner TV Receiver (Comes with MCE remote I think)

With a suitable mobo, will this make a good core?

I dont have any MD's yet, will just be using desktop pc's around the house, but eventually Id like to have 3 or 4 purpose built MD's and a central NAS.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,

There are many options to choose from. My suggestion is to look in the wiki for boards which work and don't work as you don't want to spend money on something that doesn't work.

Please check this link out.

I personally use a Gigabyte GA-M52S-S3P and find it works quite well.

I also use the Hauppauge WinTV-NovaT500 HD PCI Dual Tuner TV card and it works well out of the box.

All the best

Regards

Justin
