How to connect DirectTV Receiver
« on: August 27, 2008, 11:16:28 pm »
Greetings,

I am a Newbee to this whole LinuxMCE thing and have a question:

Is it possible to connect the DirectTV satelite receiver to LinuxMCE?

Thank You

yes, it is.

First you will want a capture card such as a Hauppauge PVR-150 (single source capture) or a Hauppague PVR-500 (dual source capture). I have excellent quality captureing over s-video.

Next, you will need a way to control the receiver from LMCE. I would recommend nothing but a USBUIRT for this. Learn the codes from your remote, and everything will work automatically.

Then, the real fun begins when you start laying out recording schedules.... You'll never want to watch "Live" tv again!

So the only connection from the Satelite receiver to the pvr-500 is through the S-VHS connection?  Unless you have a terristerial antenna, the TV F-Connector is left unconencted?  Can live Satelite TV be viewed on an extender via the S-VHS connection to the PVR?

Thank You
