At LinuxTag, Posde and I had a discussion regarding a particular curiosity when dealing with TV and the Orbiters:

Why is it, when I press the Guide button, it triggers the MythTV guide? Why can't it show the guide on the orbiter display?

Well, last night I decided to fire up HADesigner, and throw together a DesignObj, for a TV guide that uses the same data grid source as the on-screen program guide that is accessible from the gyration remotes.

A bit of hacking in HADesigner, and I know now that it will be possible to fully add a TV guide on the orbiters themselves, complete with program scheduling, THAT DOES NOT INTERRUPT THE TV DISPLAY WHILE THE TV MEDIA TYPE IS ACTIVE.

Currently, I can change channels in the EPG, as demonstrated in the video. As soon as I find a layout that I like and that works, I'll implement the scheduling buttons etc.

I intend to implement this on all the variations I can, at least UI1 horiz and vert.

Once I have this in a state I am comfortable with, I will check it into sqlCVS, so that everyone can get it with an update.

And Now, the videos:

(yes, the first one has no audio, sorry.. was too excited.)

Have no idea since vdr is not finished yet.
Maybe I should switch back to myth again since vdr never seem to be ready.

I tried just for a quick giggle to implement an EPG for the Symbian (aka Mobile Orbiter) variation.

After a quick conversation with aaron.b today, he mentioned how the mobile phones render data grids. For multi-column grids, the data is shipped back as part of the graphic image. Otherwise, for single column grids, a list widget is placed, and then the system sends the mobile orbiter strings for each element in the grid. In the case of data grids with custom cells, the text elements are actually concatenated together, which is very interesting... but I digress...

I placed a single data grid element on the page, along with the other UI elements to make the data grid usable, and this is the result:

I will be adding in additional functionality to switch between active channels and upcoming programs on a channel, and more later, such as scheduling etc.

Did anything ever come of this? Is this functionality currently available? I cant do this on my orbiter. Do i need to do some sort of update?
I realize this an old thread but I'm interested in this feature. I've searched quite a bit to see if any other information was available on getting this working. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to set it up or if the feature was abandoned.

This existed on my lab bench, and I did not push it to sqlcvs.

I will re-implement this feature after the 0810 release...unless someone else does it first.

I will have at least a "What is on Now" guide available for 0810.
