If it's just for an orbiter you could look at a HP T5700 thin client which will cost about $50 off ebay, is very small and fanless.
You can PXE Boot it as an MD and it will do music, photos, web browser etc, everything except videos...

in fact, you are wright, maybe the use with a touchscreen monitor (250€) and this, should be a solution to have a nice display on wall!
