mythtv switzerland / schweiz setup wanted / gesucht
« on: June 28, 2008, 06:37:32 pm »
Hi all

I am living in switzerland and trying to setup mythtv with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE in linuxmce 710
The problem is that I get only about 4 different channels. This might come from that I dont understand settings like "pal , pal-bg , channel frequency table (cant choose switzerland !! maybe default or europe-west?) . Anybody has a hint for this kind of problem?
Thanks in advance!
Roberto

maybe default or europe-west?

Yes - default europe-west. Pal BG is the system. Get the frequency table from your cable provider and fine tune the channels in the myth backend.

If you get 2 channel stereo sound to work - let me know :-)

Hi

Thanks su much for your help

I have the frequenzy list, now I wonder where and what I exactly have to do (finetune in the myth backend).
Where is this? And do I have to do the standard channel scan first (with settings europe-west and Pal BG) and then fine tune the resulting list with the frequency list? Or just enter the  channels with the frequency list...but where exactly?
I know, a lot of questions, but I already invested a lot of time and did not get very far. Now I can see some light at the end of the tunnel!

I would really appreciate pointing me in the right direction :-)

cheers
Roberto

Ok, my frequency table is the following:

Nr.  Sender Frequenz [MHz] Band Kanal

2  SF zwei 273.25 VHF OSB S17

5  VIVA 126.25 VHF USB S04
6  ARD Das Erste 196.25 VHF Band III K08
7  ZDF 203.25 VHF Band III K09
8  ORF 1 175.25 VHF Band III K05
9  PRO 7 266.25 VHF OSB S16
10  SAT 1 252.25 VHF OSB S14

20  HSE24 154.25 VHF USB S08
21  KiKa 375.25 UHF ESB S30
22  3+ 182.25 VHF Band III K06
23  Arte 375.25 UHF ESB S30
24  NICK 599.25 UHF Band IV K37
25  MTV 599.25 UHF Band IV K37
26  BR 140.25 VHF USB S06
27  SWR Fernsehen BW 259.25 VHF OSB S15
28  TSR 1 245.25 VHF OSB S13
29  TSR 2 503.25 UHF Band IV K25
30  EuroNews 280.25 VHF OSB S18
31  France 2 168.25 VHF USB S10
32  TV5MONDE EUROPE 327.25 UHF ESB S24
33  TSI 1 399.25 UHF ESB S33
34  RAI UNO 161.25 VHF USB S09
35  ORF 2 319.25 UHF ESB S23
36  CNN Int. 294.25 VHF OSB S20
37  TSI 2 119.25 VHF USB S03
38  SF info 471.25 UHF Band IV K21
39  cablecom infochannel 551.25 UHF Band IV K31

Now it looks like after a normal scan (europe-west and pal-bg) i automatically can see the channels with a "Kxx" at the end of its line in the frequency table (for example K39; the last one in the list).
The point is that for example for channel 34 if i choose the channel in channel editor and i want to check the frequency, the frequency is set correctly (in this case of channel 34 its set to 161250, as for channel 38 ist set to 471250). So what should i fine tune here?

If i just start mythtv i can see channel 34 in the list with the name set to "SE9" while the working  channels have a simple number as name (for example a "21")

in the above frequency list channel 34 has at the end of its line written "S09", in mythtv it has automatically been named "SE9"

On a Windows XP machine I have a different tv card and I can see "channel 34".

Any idea?

If no ideas, I have a different idea but i dont know if its possible: if I choose to scan with something other then europe-west, I DO get some OTHER channels, so is there a possibilite to combine channels found scanning different frequencies?

I really apreciate the help found in this forum

cheers
Roberto

All 39 channels were found? You only need to fine tune the channels which were not set correctly. Even a small 0.25 difference will be improved. I see you noticed there is not a decimal point in the frequeny setting. Here also in the backend you can filter out some channels you don't need, such as some un-needed foreign language channels. After you fine tune all channels you can leave the backend for now.

If i just start mythtv i can see channel 34 in the list with the name set to "SE9" while the working  channels have a simple number as name (for example a "21")

in the above frequency list channel 34 has at the end of its line written "S09", in mythtv it has automatically been named "SE9"

The labels S09 and SE9 are labels for the different band range of the channels. They should also be mentioned in Cablecom's frequency list.
Go to the front end and you can change the long name, short name and channel number manually. Press "e" on the keyboard to retriev/edit this info. Its a little tedious but needs doing. Be sure to correctly label the default starting channel, otherwise myth may crash if it cannot find it.

Gruss
