Perhaps I'm setting myself up here but I'm courious...

What are the pertinent components I'm looking for in a motherboard (I'm partial to ASUS personally).  In all that I've read I've seen references to the north bridge, south bridge, video, chipset, audio, CPU, etc.  The list of known working motherboards is nice but some of the boards are dated.

I'm looking at some of the newer boards available.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would look at http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Hardware for general hardware and http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Mainboards for a list of motherboards.  These are not neccessarily fully working kit but look at the individual pages for each component and a list of problems (if there are any) can be found

Hi,

From personal experience with Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. you'll maybe want to think twice before getting the latest and greatest chipsets etc. as driver support for those devices, and others, can take a while.  Some new cards could still be using supported chipsets - you'll have to research things a bit.  (Not Abit - no pun intended).

Cheers.
