Hi every one!!!
I'm new to the game, and I'm creating this post for the users talk about their hardware specification: What hardware they are using? What is the best hardware to build a complete media center? If it works or not, etc.
I think that this will be useful for those who, like me, want to start with the LinuxMCE but don't know what to buy or what already works with this wonderful system.
I hope that you, veterans, help us with yours experience.

I'm also very new to this.  I found LinuxMCE from asking around.  Basically I want to be able to do something like this:

Internet -> laptop/PC doesn't matter -> TVUPlayer-like app or something similar -> TV out -> TV (HD tv)

Basically to watch internet TV on an actual TV that can serve as a replacement for things like cable tv, etc.  I thought LinuxMCE was a very close approximation so I hope to gain more info here.

I'm a little confused as to how the setup will actually work.  I think I've read that you setup the core hardware and install Linux MCE on it.  The core can also serve as the media director which is where you can do tv-out (s-video out or hdmi) to an actual tv.  But I'm not sure what hardware to buy for this setup to work.  And, if I install this, where does the tv channels come from?  I hope for someone to help me understand this.

jackschmidt, I'm glad you found us, but for what you're describing, LinuxMCE might be overkill. LMCE would be for a situation where you say, want the tv to automatically turn on, lights dim, etc when you put in a movie, or be able to control security cameras and lights with your tv remote. If you're just interested in building a DVR/computer-over-tv, I'd look into MythBuntu or something similar. If you are interested in doing more than just tv, then I would look through the wiki, specifically: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Hardware
You'll want a hybrid (one computer) system and will use something like a HDHomerun or one of the other devices here: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:TV_Cards to input the signal into the system. As far as computer to tv, any decent video card with dvi or hdmi out will be able to run a signal to your hdtv. Again, just look through the wiki and forum and you'll find specific examples people have given.

I've re-worked the user hardware section of the wiki a little bit. But we need people to add their stuff to the wiki! even if its just a blurb, it would help. and tag it with [[Category:User Setup]]. I've been going around and adding the other relative sub categories, but I cant seem to find many setups in the wiki. SO in closing, just add it please. dont even have to edit it because i can format if needed.
