GC-100 pre-purchase ???

 Hey guys,
 
 I am almost ready to order a GC-100-12. But after reading the wiki it does not leave me with the warm any fuzzies that this thing is going to do the job properly.  Does it actually work right in 710Rc2 and what else do I need to get with it. I noticed that they have an ir learner as well at like 50$ - I thought I read that it could learn right at the GC-100 box itself. They also have a converter to use Zantech sensors, does that mean that I can only use GC-100 IR buddies.
