Slow slow launch
« on: May 11, 2008, 04:13:40 pm »
Hi Guys,

I've just installed from DVD and seem to be having some trouble booting up.

I had an error in the launch manager about not being able to connect to MySQL, and also about not being able to connect to the router at 127.0.0.1.

These errors stuck around for minutes before moving on.
The launcher has now progressed to first time generating skin and has stopped once more (10 minutes ago)

Am I being impatient or is something wrong here?

So I'm going to update on this, a reinstall and several reboots later I managed to get it to progress to a state where both the core and media station were running, but no the orbiter would never appear.

Also, I have never seen the AV/house setup as depicted in the video and documentation? Is this a symptom of whatever problem I have or am I missing something?

I have tried to set up a laptop to netboot as a media director but this has not been successful either, but I think this is because of the lack of initial setup wizard?

I did get the resolution/audio wizard but not the second one with the talking girl.

Any ideas?

I'm starting to get my way around now and have had a sniff at the logs. Still no sign of the setup wizard which leaves me very dubious about the quality of this install, but that aside I manually made a user to address an error in the OrbiterGen log.

Now, while trying to activate there is a ample supply of failed query error messages again echoing the problem I initially had, unable to connect to mysql though socket. What is frustrating me the most is this is the clean install DVD so I don't understand why it seems to be encountering such a fundamental problem.

Exact error is Connect Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock (1111)

I'm going to try and download an older version overnight and give that a go as countless reinstalls are yielding the same result.

I have seen this happen once before. I would suggest that you install again from scratch (assuming you have the LinuxMCE-0710 release iso) and that should fix the problem. You can use the option to retain your /home directory (but not the one that offers to retain your settings).

All the best

Hi Andrew,

This is the third, maybe forth time I've installed from scratch now so I'm either very unlucky or is there a problem with the installer.
I'll let you guys know how it goes tonight using the 704 DVD.

That's what I'm using. I've going to the process of reburning it and trying that. I'm also download the previous version DVD to see if that works.
