Hello,

I require more tuners than I have PCI slots. What would be the best solution to achieve this?
Can multiple USB tuners play well with multiple PCI ones?
Is there some way to slave another machine to the core?

I apologize if this information is easily found. I had no luck.

Thankyou.

Speaking for MythTV (the options for VDR vary currently) and in the U.S., You can use tuners in any of the MDs as well as the HDHomerun Network Tuner: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Hdhomerun

VDR supports distributing tuners in multiple devices now so I am sure that we will support that in the future. However with each tuner capable of delivering all channels on that MUX or Bouquet simultaneously with VDR its less of an issue.

All the best

Why not use cards with dual tuners like the hauppauge PVR-500? How many PCI slots do you have and how many do you need? Maybe getting an other MB with more PCI-slots could help and would be cheaper sollution.

Dual tuners helps but not solves the problem.
This is what needs to be achieved.

minimum
4x free to air (DVBT) tuners (or 2  dual tuners)
2x DVBS
2x analogue capture (or tuners) for cable TV

This setup will be for a large household with multiple concurrent users and as you can see multiple TV sources.

Motherboards with 8 PCI slots will be hard to find. Maybe you should think of splitting it to two diferent machines. If it's possible you should get cards with hardware acceleration (build in MPEG de/encoder) or I think you'll need one hell of a cpu if all the cards are being used simultaniously. Though I have no experience with this I believe the chance for succes is better if you split it up into two cores.
