Well with the LinuxMCE Beta's you will not receive any automatic updates... you can manually update packages using apt from the Console though.

With the LinuxMCE 0710 release version you will automatically get updates when they are needed and you will get an on-screen message to alert you when an update has been downloaded.

Manual updating of packages can be done of course using apt but there is the risk that you may cause unforeseen breakages by doing so. As long as you are careful and read any warnings before you commit to installing with apt you should be ok though.

Hope this helps

do I just do "apt-get updates"
I am guessing there is a little more to it than that?
as in knowing WHAT packages to update :)

To update all packages:
sudo apt-get update

If you want other options try
man apt-get
amd64, asus A8N-SLI, 2gb ram, 500gb sata ++, nvidia 6800.
TV: Sony KDV-50E2010
nad 761 DD/DTS reciever via SPDIF

thanks tthaulow!!
I was not sure using "sudo apt-get update"
would not break something :)
forgive my lack of Linux knowledge!!
