Mixed i386 and x64 Media Directors
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:03:31 pm »
Hi

I have installed Linuxmce with DVD for AMD64 - 0710 Beta 4 on the CORE with another MD also running on AMD64 - 0710 Beta 4 via PXE.

I would like to run another MD which runs on i386. Does anybody have any ideas where to put the files, and which ones?

Thanks
Jason

You shouldn't do anything. LinxuMCE supports mixed MDs in case you installed your core from DVD. I have AMD64 core and i386 MD. But I added it manually via admin page (some problems with detection of MD). So, I just changed architecture from AMD64 to i386 on the MD's page. And rebuilt its image. So, let first your system to add MD. If it won't do it successful add it manually.

I have 1 Core and 2 MD's and they are all I386. But on the admin page the MD's are displayed as AMD64. All seems to work just fine so I never tried to change it to I386. Maybe I'll give it a try and see what happens. Anyone else got the same 'problem'?

In my case MD gave me the error about using 64bit instead 32 during boot. It started to boot successful only after I changed its architecture and rebuilt its image.

If in your case everything working fine it's better do not touch it :)

My diskless MD is installed as amd64, allthough it is a x86_64. Everything but Mythtv works fine. Oddly on the "KnownIssues 0710 Beta4"

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/KnownIssues_0710_Beta4

page, I quote:

" - wget -c ftp://builder32.linuxmce.com/Download/MythTV_Player-beta4-fix/x86_64/MythTV_Player (for amd64) "

Note the x86_64 and amd64 on the same line! So all I can assume is that in Linuxmce amd64 = x86_64.

Sad part is that if I copy the "MythTV_Player-beta4-fix" to my MD, "MythTV_Player" loads, but Myth freezes straight away. So bad that my keyboard doesn't even work. The MD is up though, since I can rlogin in. Guess I'll be running the non fixed "MythTV_Player" with the infamous "-v all" bug. lol ???

I changed the architecture of one of my MD's via the Admin page and did a rebuild of the image. When I booted it afterwards the AV-wizard ran again but I can not see or notice any difference. Because everything is working fine I'm not worried but find it hard to believe mij 32-bit system can handel all the 64-bit intructions. I know nothing about programming so maybe that's why I don't understand it.

I wasn't sure whether this query should be on this thread or here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4963.0 but I reckon it might get more attention without the "solved" in the title.
I've an i386 hybrid core running 710rc1. I had no problem adding an i386 MD but am trying to add an amd64 MD and it ain't playing ball.
I've added the MD via the web admin, specified as amd64, rebuilt image, updated and run setup diskless MD. Waited for everything to finish and booted new machine, nada!!
I populated the MAC address on the MD in the webadmin and tried again - this time machine starts to boot, h/w detection flies along as kernel boots - then I get a recurring error of "mount failed: 13". This tries a number of times then dumps me out to a busybox prompt.

What am I missing?

I have tried deleting and re-adding the MD but no luck.

I'm guessing my core is missing amd64 images for the diskless MDs - how would I know this? and if so where do I get them?

thx
-Coley.

Does anyone know where I should dig next to try and get this MD operational?
According to the wiki I should just be able to plug the MD in and the core should spot it and do the necessaries - I've never had this work, the core never hands out an addr.

help

I checked what I thought was the existing working MD again, and that now fails too with the same mount error!
I'll upgrade to RC2 when I get a chance and see if this whole issue goes away.
