Sound & video issues with install/setup
« on: March 29, 2008, 03:30:24 am »
Well folks I'm at a bit of a loss here as I've read through the FAQ and tried what was suggested and I haven't had much luck. It could be that I missed something that was in the FAQ, if so feel free to point me to it. I guess I'll start with the main components of my setup:

Samsung HLS4266 42" DLP (720p native resolution)
Harmon Kardon AVR-230 receiver
HTPC
P4 1.4GHz CPU
768MB RAM
40 GB Western Digital HDD
320 GB Seagate HDD
Matrox G450
Lite On DVD-ROM
ATi TV Wonder x 2
Hercules Fortissimo
USB IR Receiver (HP branded)

So with that noted here are the issues that I'm experiencing:

1) I can not seem to get an acceptable resolution that my TV supports. I want to run it in 720p (have it hooked up to my G450 via DVI to HDMI cable) but every time I select that resolution no matter what I set the refresh rate I get an incompatible signal. The TV specs state that it should support 720p at 60Hz but it will not run at that.

2) I decided to try and live with a lower resolution (420p) while I just try and get it up and running. Then I encountered my audio problem. I can not get audio out of my sound card via either the optical out (no light coming out either, should be noted) or via the analog audio. As far as I'm aware this card does work, at least the analog. I was able to get the analog working under another distribution. Not sure why it isn't working now.

3) I decide that I'll just deal with no audio for now (effectively I just want to get it setup) but when I get to the final audio step it just hangs and doesn't do anything.

At this point I'm honestly not quite sure what to do. All help is appreciated.

I would suggest getting yourself a nVidia 6200 card (look over the forums there are dozens of threads on this topic) to fix your video problems. Your audio problem is more difficult... it maybe down to the sound chip on your motherboard not being supported.
