Detecting non-diskless Media Director
« on: March 13, 2008, 07:58:29 am »
Hi,

I try to add non-diskless MD to my LinuxMCE 0710 Beta 4 installation. I have Kubuntu 7.10 installed from Ubuntu (apt-get install kubuntu-desktop). When I run mce-installer it doesn't detect my core and offers me a full installation instead of install just media director. The non-diskless MD (i386) is connected to the internal core (AMD64) network (192.168.80.*). Maybe the MD should be added manually via admin interface first. And then mce-installer should be run? Can it be related with network card and impossibility to boot via PXE?

Moreover, when I run installer it crashes on the Kubuntu CD caching:
Code: [Select]
Preparing to replace dpkg-repack 1.27 (using ./dpkg-repack_1.27_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement dpkg-repack ...
Setting up dpkg-repack (1.27) ...
ioctl: LOOP_CLR_FD: No such device or address
mount: unknown filesystem type 'squashfs'

ERROR : Could not cache Kubuntu Live CD

Any suggestions will very appreciated!

Hi Rafik,

I found your post about setup disked MD - http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2794.msg13629#msg13629. But without luck. Maybe that functionality was removed from the mce-installer?

Also found that post of Andrew about 0710 Beta 2 and diskled MD - http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=1796.msg8353#msg8353. It seems that it should work but it doesn't.

 Hi Michael,

Try seting up your disked MD using the 0704 version then it should be upgraded to 0710 beta whatever.

 This is supposed to work.

Andrew clarified that. The support of disled MD was dropped in 0710 and it isn't planned in the stable 0710 release. It was done to improve stability of work of diskless MDs. So, I'm not sure that installation 0704 and upgrade to 0710 will help to add diskled MD.

As far as i know, the support for disked md was reported as a known issue in 0710, it would have been nice to see this written
somewhere.

However i shall give a go at the proposed trick above since it says in the known issues that in the upgrade from 0704 to 0710
 the mds shall be upgraded.

ill let you know the outcome (if your have any interest)
