nothing after install
« on: February 27, 2008, 04:05:02 pm »
Yes i have read the posts about the black screens after install. However I think my situation may (maybe not) different.
First of all my motherboard has no onboard video, I'm using a nvidia 7300 video card that has DVI, VGA, and Component. I am also using a Zalman HT1600 case that has a 7in. LCD monitor on it.

I have the VGA from the card hooked up to the monitor on the case, and I use component to hook up to my TV. (I have also tried using the DVI port to connect to my HDMI on tv with same results)

During install I see everything fine on both the case monitor as well as my TV, After Install I see the Kubuntu loading screen, a couple of text lines that pass by really quick and then
I get a couple of flashs, my guess is attempting to load x, and then everything just goes blank my TV goes into power saving mode because its not getting video signal, and the monitor on my case also stays blank. After about 5min. of this my wireless logitech keyboard (mx5000) says its not connected anymore via the LCD screen. So it seems as if the computer just locks up. I also hear no sound during any of this, and I have gone through the install twice now.

I am using version 0710 beta 3 (DVD)

I have not run into this, but perhaps posting a little more about your machine might help.

What chipset are you running on the mb?
what else is hooked up inside and outside of the box, hard drive, I'm assuming that is a USB keyboard?

There may not be enough of a user group here to diagnose a problem that specific (could be wrong).  I see http://ubuntuforums.org recommended a lot.  Since this project is so closely related to Ubuntu itself, that might be another place to try.

I was using the Asus P5B motherboard, and Intel Core2Duo processor. 4Gb OCZ ram, 250GB and 500GB hdd's. Last night I switched out the motherboard to as Asus M2N-Sli, with an AMD x2 6000+ cpu, and everything seems to be working fine now.

However I did have a couple of problems, considering I switched to the AMD motherboard, I decided to use the AMD version of the install DVD, and I got the exact same results as before. I had also switched to a wired keyboard and when my screen would go blank, i could tap enter and my screen would come back on briefly, usually with a blinking cursor and then it would ask for login information. (did the same with the intel setup on 386 DVD)

So I did a fresh install with the 386 DVD using the AMD board, and the install seemed to go a lot smoother. I was able to see the setup wizard and go through the process without any problems. So i'm not sure what went wrong earlier, my only conclusion was incompatible motherboard.

Now I just need to figure out why it won't play my DVDs.......

FYI, that board uses the Intel P965 chipset.  A quick google turns up a continuing driver issues with ubuntu in particular.  So I believe that can be chalked up to an incompatible mb.

Tell us more about the symptoms you're experiencing with the DVDs?
is it giving you an onscreen error of any kind.  Have you been able to take a look at any system log files?
