Hi all,

I think it would be wonderful for all those with install- and usage problems to have a "Check Installation" feature. This would do an extensive self-check of everything.

I haven't looked at the pluto or LMCE sources, but generally in scientific environments (where I'm from) it is good practice to program self-tests for important routines. A self-test for LMCE would at the very least consist of checking the following:

  • Are all files there? And at the proper locations?
  • Any failed CRC-checks? I know this would be time-consuming, but it beats debugging stuff for days.
  • Sanity checks for basic configuration options, at least those that are needed for web panel access.
  • ...

There is always more that could be tested, but these seem important. Another good test, probably not too difficult to implement, is a media check before installation.

OK. Now that I am almost done with this... I guess I should've checked if this is already work in progress...  Roll Eyes

Oh well!

Cheers

Mark
