710b3 upgrade - a few questions
« on: January 22, 2008, 04:37:27 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to update from 704 to 710b3.  It appears the recommended way is to boot off the DVD and to upgrade.  The problem is the only way I can seem to get the DVD download is via the painfully slowwwwwwwwwwwww bittorent that can take days.

I have tried the helper-app to upgrade via the web, it apears to have upgraded my ubuntu to 710 but not LMCE.
I have also downloaded the two 710b3 CD's, but they are not bootable.  They apear to have the debian install package, so I installed that which creates the shortcut on my KDE desktop.  I launch that,  the upgrade starts,  then disapears.  No errors, not even when the script is ran from a command line.

A few questions:
Is there anywhere I can download the DVD without a bittorent?
Is there a way to install off the CD's, or a log file with a possible error I could look into?
What is the difference between these two dowload options? (Can I upgrade from either)

It apears I may be able to download the DVD from here.

The file names end in iso_part001 and iso_part002.  Are those split files, if so how do I get them back together?

Thank you.

Thank you.

To upgrade from LinuxMCE-0704 to LinuxMCE-0710 you need to do more than just upgrade Kubuntu. The only supported way to do it (ie I have used it and it works) is to use the Upgrade DVD for I386 - 0710 Beta 3 (I have not tried upgrading from 32bit to 64bit though) which includes all the additional packages to upgrade both the Kubunto base install and the LinuxMCE component.
