710 Beta3 for AMD64 - Stable for core/hybrid
« on: January 17, 2008, 06:26:02 pm »
Given a core/hybrid Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard, AMD 64 x2 4400 with 1GB RAM, is there any reason to stay with the i386 DVD ISO instead fo the AMD64 DVD? Will there be nVidia or other driver issues?

I realize this is a beta - just not sure if the AMD64 version might be more targeted at a heavy-duty core only server where video and capture drivers "might" not be as much of an issue.
Core/hybrid: Antec Fusion case, Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard, AMD 64 x2 4400,  1GB RAM, Global Cache GC100, Streamzap remote, ZCU000 ZWave, Hauppage PVR-500 to cable box, HDHomeRun to two HD antenna's in Scottsdale, AZ; Akai PT50DL14 50" DLP, Global Cache

I would suggest that you try the 64bit version on your core if you have the appropriate hardware.... which you do. Our experience is that it is very stable and usable.

Great! I'll give it a try - as soon as it downloads. Unfortunately the torrents says its going to take another day to download.

I downloaded the LinuxMCE Beta 3 amd64 DVD (3.9 gig) in 8 hours.  I did not upgrade, I did a clean Install.  It was very quick.  All my display issues with the Video and Audio Media player options are fixed.  The video display is more stable.  I can still see a tear but it is occasional now rather than persistent.  I chose 720P DVI without transparent masking.  :)

A nice new feature is the Screen savers ability to allow you to choose the pictures that are displayed.  :o

With multiple MD's installed it appears faster, snappy.  :)

I do have a problem  I probably created.  IF you are in the US choose Myth TV, do not choose VDR.  You get only one choice.  At the present time if you run the wizard to try to choose Myth after choosing VDR it will break something and VDR will have issues.  ???

Your right about that last point... once you choose your PVR of choice in Beta3 you cannot easily go back!

However that limitation is being worked on and should disappear before release... ultimately you should be able to switch back and forth. However the Core and all MD's have to use the same PVR... you can't mix MythTV & VDR in the same system.
