ASUS Digimatrix Media Director

I was wondering if anyone has had any success setting one of these up as a media director?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16856110011

the link is to NewEgg. It seems like an ideal machine for media director duty with its Hi-Def video output and its built in capture card, its look and size are perfect for use in a home media center.

Hi,

I have Digimatrix as diskless MD under Pluto, but with just oridnary features (I have no HDTV, panel, volume knob is not yet working, I also don't have remote to try it...)... Also it reports me that it doesn't have Wake on Lan feature, if you want it to boot on PXE, then you have to press 2 each time on boot to get into PXe booting (although did change order in Bios)...

But I'm also linux on Digimatrix newbie, so maybe these are solvable problems. If there is anyone more experienced on Digimatrix and Linux, please help....

In spite of all, it's nice machine and I'd be happy if it will work under Pluto will majority of features...

Few pointers:

I was looking on the other sites that you mentioned and it appears that they have the panel, gigabit ethernet, tv out, etc all working after installing some additional software.

If your using the DM as a diskless MD, then it pulls all the files from the Pluto Core.  Wouldn't you be able to save the software updates on the Core and have it install when the DM is PXe booting?

Then again, I'm a noob at all of this and I could have it all backwards...

Yes, you're right. I just didn't have time or need  to do it, or maybe I'm waiting if someone will post compiling notes on this, so I can try it spending less time on it  :) ....

JackPC by Chip PC would also make a good compact MD or Orbiter?

I'm not so sure if it would I'm afraid. Max memory configuration seems to be 128Mb, and it only runs ICA, RDP and a web browser. Probably vastly underpowered to run as an MD and not sure if the orbiter software can be installed on it.

It also doesn't mention if it supports PXE boot, or if it can even run linux (tho' I'm sure it can with some hacking! Probably already a project on the net to run linux on it!)

Neat little computer, but only designed as a thin client.

On the other hand, anyone know where to get one of the Asus Digimatrix boxes from in the UK and a rough idea of price?

Cheers,

Darren.

Hi,

I decided to try to get my diskless MD on Digimatrix some advanced options (lirc, mythphone for video telephony, front panel, display)...

I'll post what I find out, but would also kindly ask if anyone else is willing to take part in this discussion and share results...

Fora start - I noticed that Wol is not working with sis900 module. There seems patch to be available at :

Hi,

currently,

working :
- almost everything works (audio, video, remote).
- added Panel utility, so have now temperature and time displayed

not working yet (to do):
- simple phone (didn't mangle with microphone yet)
- Wake on Lan
- must reconfigure some buttons on remote (to have "menu" "info" for mythtv etc...)
- mythbackend (I still have problems with TV card - but didn't try to solve it too hard)
- running mythtv gives some very strange colour settings - after that everything tends to pink colour...
- time on Panel is 1 hour behind when switched off - it seems more general Pluto problem....

I have older Digimatrix model wiht built in IR sensor.

hth,

regards,

Rob.
