Swapping/redetecting vid card

I've swapped the vid card in my core/hybrid. Now the on screen orbiter won't display. I just get a login prompt instead. Is there a way to re-detect the vid card? (swapping the cards back didn't get the orbiter to load either.) What's the proper procedure for swapping the vid cards?

You can run /var/lib/dpkg/info/pluto-orbiter.postinst and it will re-run the detection sequence. Or you can edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and change the driver by hand if you know what it is.

Be advised that if the card is too new you'll get the vesa driver.

I managed (just barely) to figure out how to run the .sh files from the command line. Please explain to my noobie self exactly how to "run" pluto-orbiter.postinst
Sorry, trust me...it sucks not knowing anything about Linux when it dies.

Just copy/paste (retype) that path as is and press enter. The file has the executable attribute set so it behaves just like any executable program. No need to explicitely call its interpreter.
