Any news?

I've just started in LMCE and I currently buy from Fiire, but I'm beginning to get interested in products/features they don't offer. (Webpads, alarm, video surveillence, etc.)

As far as price, everybody knows that you pay for convenience and reliability, I'm more than happy to pay more for products I can feel confident will work.  I already have an IT job that keeps me busy 60-80 hours a week and I don't have the time to properly research product compatibility.  The support issue isn't paramount to me beyond RMA if necessary, I know enough about LMCE to know that it's a work in progress and it has a ways to go to becoming a "supportable" product and I'm completely OK with that.

The store is appealing to me because it will hopefully be a one stop shop for everything I want to do with my LMCE installation.  And I can buy with confidence knowing the products offered are proven to work with LMCE.  For that assurance I'll happily pay above market price.

Hello to everyone on the site.

I've started playing with LinuxMCE few month ago and accidentally fell in love with it. So when one night I've checked name linuxmcestore.com and found out that it is available it was too compelling to register it and park at my hosting. Now I'm thinking, since that name is really broad one and I alone probably would not be able to fill it up to it's true potential, I'm thinking to convert it into virtual mall where everyone interested could get a storefront. Thoughts?? Ideas?? Comments??

Yes that domain has been discussed with the LinuxMCE project  leader (DK)and it was decided that it was not in the best interest of the community to sell  products under that name, possibly  misleading people that it was community backed. Or I would have registered that domain a year ago.
My domain is linuxmcecompatible.com and hopefully will be online in the next few months. Until then I will be offering the web-pads and soon will be offering fully licensed starter kits pre-installed.

See you soon

Tim

P.S.

You may want to do little home work on LMCE licensing.

I am sure you did not realize any issues in registering the name or doing anything wrong. However in the best interest of the community I feel the domain name linuxmcestore.com be should donated to the LMCE foundation(in progress) to see to its use if any. This would avoid any confusion of community backing.

Well, since this name had been hosting porno sites for a while, at list now it is clear of it. Somehow I don't think been associated with porno industry is helpful for LinuxMCE community anyway.

I still think that converting this name into virtual mall with many individual stores will greatly benefit whole community.

That may be true ... I just would like to have the community to choose what it wants to back, not just have backing by name association.

Thanks for removing the porn BTW

I think that will benefit you and whoever else cashing in on the name, the community has little use for it.  And at least when it's hosting porn, nobody will make the mistake of thinking we support (or draw benefits from) it.

I noticed the site is live and is using Unauthorized Linuxmce logos and selling unlicensed products.

I suggest pulling the site before you have issues.

Right now, I suggest to go someplace else. And maybe contact the lmce project manager danielk about the issue. I think it would appropriate to transfer the domain to him, so he can move the registration into the foundation, once the foundation is fully established.

Doing anything else with it, does not look to clean to me.

Well, Guliaka...

I know you probably weren't thinking of the possible problems that could arise, but please understand:

* Linux is a registered trademark of Linus Torvalds. You have to work out a royalty agreement to use the name in a commercial enterprise, even a community driven one.

* You must obtain a license to sell hardware with LinuxMCE bundled on it, as per some of the software in the system, which is bundled under the Pluto Public License.

* You can not use the logos for commercial intent without discussing it with the foundation.

You need to take the site down.

Please enlighten me what is this suppose to mean??

Whenever you sell LinuxMCE installed on hardware or hardware that is explicitly specified to be used together with lmce you have to obtain a license from Pluto. Please read the Pluto Public License.
