Some more information. I tried manually copying the DVD to the harddisk. It always stops at the same position. Is it possible, that this is some kind of copy protection coming into play?

It seems a problem of a read error. I modified the disk_copy.c a bit to change the buffers, it just fails. On a different disc, changing (lowering) the buffers yielded better results.

Anyone know, if there are any parameters to be set during the read function to retry on failure?

Some more information.

I have tried numerous DVDs. All of them play just fine. BUT, a lot have problems when I try to copy them to the Core.  I have tried various tools available and all exhibit the same kind of problem. After 7-8% of the DVD I get read errors.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I will try another drive, but doubt that it will help.

Any and help is greatly appreciated

Hello,

some additional information regarding the problem. I have found more DVDs with a problem. There seem to be a fairly new copy protection scheme in place, used by some of the german DVD producers. Details can be found here http://www.x-protect.com/, and search on http://forum.doom9.org for "Das Parfum" or x-protect reveals some more information.

Don't you just love it, if you buy a generic standardized inexpensive product, like a DVD for around 10€, take it home, just to find out, it will not play on your Linux system, nor on your Windows systems with older versions of WinDVD. NOT! Angry
