Implementing a way to show various device data on floorplan - need comunity help

Hi,

as promised here (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=3609.msg20529#msg20529), I talked to Chris (Pluto developer) and asked about current state of adding support for showing data for various devices on Orbiter floorplans. It seems that this interests more and more LMCE users, since currently only very limited number of devices can be properl shown and controlled from floorplans.

Chris agreed to help with necessary info - originally Eugene was meant to code this, but he cannot do that... Chris added few comments on this mantis thread for a start :

I'd be glad for your comments and if there is anyone willing to contribute work in this direction. Chris will help with all info needed - he claims that it's pretty straight forward... He will respond to mantis thread notes...

The whole idea is pretty simple (no new events or whatever). Just ability to add another device data to device templates that would specify what will be shown on floorplan (if at all) - this could be another device data entry or just simply device state... Orbiters will refresh that info every few seconds and I think this is good enough...

I also described few more info about how Orbiters show info for devices on floorplan (but don't know if that info applies) :

Hi Bulek,

I have spoken to Aaron (Founder of Pluto Inc) and Chris as well and have also added my strong support of your suggestions both directly with them in our conversation and also in the Mantis item you opened up. You and Dan are both doing great work in this whole area and I know Chris is aware of this and I am sure you will start to see enormous improvements in the support you get in the coming weeks.

We will help with testing/feedback and coding too if you guys need any help with that.

I posted the following in a note to that Mantis issue:

I'm interested in helping. I don't have any HA devices (yet) or experience, but plenty of other kinds (of experience and devices . I'm fluent in C/C++, Perl, Java (and plenty of others), and I can pick up Ruby if necessary. And I've designed networked GUIs to control/sensor feedback devices before (mostly cameras and hardcopies, but also to other realtime/async data sources/sinks). Mainly I'm interested in helping make the floorplan a better interactive model of the physical site, though I have started researching attaching Perl to devices (and for scripting LMCE generally), and would be interested in killing two programming birds with one requirements stone, if appropriate.
