Windows Client?
« on: December 17, 2007, 06:40:39 pm »
Hello,
What's the best way play music from lmce (core) on a windows box?

Suggestions on ways to play videos on a windows box are welcome as well.

I understand that we can use an orbiter running on windows to control other media directors, I would like to play media directly on the windows machine other than by simple file sharing.

much thanks!
joseph

Just attach the share(s) and use your favorite (windows) audio player I guess...  Or you could simply reboot the machine as a diskless media director and enjoy a real OS. ;)

Re: Windows Client? MD in a VM?

Zarec,
thanks for the quick reply.  I use the simple file sharing with VLC for win on the win boxes and it works OK.

was hoping someone had developed an "md client" that could run in a window on a win box to browse the media, etc like the orbiter, but actually play on the win box.  another thought is some sort of xline-like backend client, but haven't really explored that.

other option I'm thinking about is a vm to netboot but I anticipate performance issues for video...

thoughts welcome,

again thanks,
joseph

Check the Utility Downloads (from the web logon screen)
There is a utility there to 'reboot' your windows XP box as a MD.. a simple shortcut will do it for you...
switching will take some time, but in order to get the full effect, you really need a linux frontend.

If you'd like to watch video on your Windows PC the project MythTv Player (http://sudu.dk/mythtvplayer) might be interesting for you. It allows to browse and play recordings directly from a MythTV backend.

There should be no issues using for instance media portal (windows) as a front end with a LMCE backend/server. It works for me. Both systems see the same media file share. Still not LMCE though, but works for media playback.
