i'd try install Kubuntu by itself with no MCE software and see if you have the same problem.  Just as a test have you tried disabling the onboard NIC and sound?  I'd give that shot and see what happens before the reinstall of just Kubuntu.

I think I'll hold off till 0710 and then do a fresh install.
