Fiire Chief in the UK?
« on: December 01, 2007, 08:36:01 pm »
Hi All,

Is it me, or is the following remote control the same as the Fiire Gyro one? It looks identical.

The Fiire Chief is made for Fiire by Gyration and is based on the Gyration MCE Remote. The Fiire Chief has dedicated buttons and labels that match lmce functions and controls.

Whats the major difference?

The only thing I have been able to glean is that the one linked above can't do the "follow me" but other than that it works similar?  ???

Blair

Iit's not the same internally.
I think this one is bluetooth, the fiire one is RF to make the 'follow me' function work as intended (WinMCE does not have follow me). There was a bit of discussion about this early this fall.
Other than that they should be fairly similar, so if you have no use for the 'follow me' I don't know if it would be a problem.

They both use standard gyration wireless technology and also have RC6 IR built in too. They are essentially the same unit with a different set of command function printed on the remote and some additional firmware. There are plenty of other threads about this...

Yes Andrew, I am refering to this one here, and this one
I have neither of them, I only have the standard RC6, but the above threads is what was basing the assumption on.

Well the point I was referring to is that neither the Fiire unit or the WindowsMCE unit from Gyration have any BlueTooth capability at all ;-)

Roger that.
Either way, it should work fine, provided you do not need the 'follow me' function of the Fiire controller
