I have been using any dvd to copy my movies to my hard drive. it is not in iso format just the video_ts folder. do I need to convert it back to .iso or can I just leave it as is?

You need to convert them back to .iso.

that would explain why linuxmce couldn't find it.

be sure to name them movie.dvd  not movie.iso
