Ethernet over power
« on: November 08, 2007, 11:33:21 am »
Anyone tried connecting their media centre, san, media directors using ethernet over power ?

Anyone see any problems with this ?  Ive already figured trying to go for a WLAN solution will be a waste of time ...

Hi,

Yes we have tested this with both 85mbit and 200mbit HomePlug units. The 85mbit HP units are certainly fine for many applications with typical 'real world' throughput in the 25-30mbit range. I am testing some 85mbit units at home on my home Core and they have been working reliably for about 6 months now.

The one caveat with these units though is that no two home electrical installations are the same so be aware that just because they work in house 'A' does not mean that you will have the same experience in House 'B'. Other electical devices (eg fridges and hair dryers !) can cause a lot of problem when installing   and testing your network.

Hope the above helps
