NOOB- install very very slow
« on: November 11, 2007, 02:13:45 pm »
I'm a total noob to Linux.  I'm under the impression that LinuxMCE is the best PVR/ media out there.

This is what I have...

ASUS M2NPV-VM - Bios 1201
Amd Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (Black- no O.C)
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB)
LifeView FlyDVB-S - http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-S_PCI_Cards (last card in the list)
Antec NSK2400
Maxtor 40GB IDE hard drive
Seagate 500GB SATA- I hope to use this as storage

I've installed the DVD onto a fresh box.  Followed the instructions, but I'm not having any success.  The system is very very slow, takes forever to start up, switch to KDE, and I can't configure my Sat card (should I start a new post for that??)

I've ran memtest for 26 hours- no errors.  I don't want to go to M$.  Can someone direct me to a link, or instructions on how to repair this problem?  Should I scrap the maxtor, and run it all off my Seagate?

Try looking in the logs under /var/log/pluto.  There can be a lot of them so I usually start out with this command to quickly zero in on the most active ones:
Code: [Select]
tail -f /var/log/pluto/*
"Change is inevitable. Progress is optional."
