I edited these sucessfully by hand, because of the excellent documentation here:

For zaptel.conf:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+config+zaptel.conf

For zapata.conf: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Asterisk+config+zapata.conf

I'm glad that it worked for you. However an autoconfig is very welcome, because not many regular users will go down to console to edit configs.
