Problems logging into Administrator Mode after DVD Install
« on: August 24, 2007, 05:21:24 pm »
I had installed LinuxMCE 0704 last night through the DVD Install. Cannot for the life of me get CDs 1 and 2 to install after installing Kubuntu separately. I have installed various distributions of linux over the years, as well as within VMWare, but never switched from MS Win to Linux on a permanent basis. So am not conversant on linux commands.

When I attempt to log into the administrator mode to make changes to my configuration, from the other threads, I had found that the Username is supposed to be: linuxmce, and that the Password is also supposed to be: linuxmce. Entered that information and I got a message that essentially told me that I had entered an invalid username and/or password.

Does anyone know what username and password to enter after installing LinuxMCE through the DVD method?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Admin mode", no such mode exists...

There is an admin website. The website's username and password would be whatever you set it to when you created you users during install.

Also, you can do some administrative fucntions in the terminal. That's what has the username and password of linuxmce/linuxmce. However, that alone won't give you root access (admin access for the windows users). You will need to prepend sudo to whatever command you issue that requires admin access. Then when it propts for a password it's linuxmce.

I´ve got the same problem from a CD install. Cannot login to the web based config, using any user / password i have specified.

Is there a way to reset the user? Or is it supposed to use the normal Linux  password/users?

To log in on a terminal use the username and password of the account that you created during the installation of Kubuntu.  In the case of a DVD installation it is by default linuxmce/linuxmce.

To log into the web admin you can to use the name of any user created with the stup wizard, the password has been set to the username as well unless you have already changed it.

When you run the Setup Wizard and create you first user that user becomes the 'Master user' and has the ability to change any setup or setting accessible from the Web Admin site on your Core. If you add additional users when in the Setup Wizard then they are by default not able to change settings in the Admin Web site. If you login to Web Admin as your 'Master user' then you can go to Wizard -> Basic Info -> Users and tick the box "Master User (can modify configuration)?" next to any users you have already created and then click 'Save' to make them 'Master Users' too.
