Is it possible to install VDR and related plugins, after installing LinuxMCE - without breaking LinuxMCE - rather being limited to the MythTV package that comes with LinuxMCE?

I saw some threads which had broached this subject, but nothing since LinuxMCE 0704 came out. Anyone have any experience installing VDR after LinuxMCE?

As I know LMCE is integrated with MythTV so close that it's impossible to run it without mythbackend (if I'm not wrong). So, possible it's impossible to run VDR only. Moreover, the integration with VDR is very pure and it isn't trivial task to get working system LMCE + VDR.

Well, one of those threads you saw was probably just me being a dumbass, I had enabled the VDR options and something went wrong with the devices giving me errors on every boot.  And disabeling those options again didn't help, so I panicked a bit.  In the end it turned out I could easily remove those devices manualy from the device tree.  It was a nice learning experience for me, but doesn't actually say much about the VDR support.  At least it's some sort of description on what to do when things get messed up a bit, like I managed to do.  Unfortunately that's all the experience I have with VDR so far.

I wouldn't mind having another stab at it since I can't seem to get MythTV to work anyway (TV is not high on my list).

Yes you can install vdr after installing lmce-0704 and it will not break anything and will run standalone fine... but integrating it with lmce's UI/DCErouter etc is not at all straightforward. The current vdr in the lmce-0704 release is a hangover from the Pluto days and as such is 'broken' as the devs have not revisited this part of the system yet.
