Just wanted other's to know, Ubuntu can be installed on a windows box without repartitioning, and allowing easy removal without risk to windows, it works just as good.  If there ever gets to be a easy setup iso, then maybe wubi can install it on existing MCE machines for people wishing to quickly try it out without risk, and without much hassles! Wubi: http://www.cutlersoftware.com/ubuntusetup/wubi/en-US/index.html (This has problems if you have multiple partitions) Check the wubi site for support. |

I tried this out, but couldn't get it to boot Linux. There is an error saying it can't find /wubi/linux (it is there!)
I've searched the Wubi site, but to no avail. My only thought is that my machine has NTFS installed. Could that be the cause?

I am having the exact same problem! Also on NTFS but who isn't these days? It should state it doesn't work with NTFS

Thats the version I did use. I had to move the files to my d:\ partition for some odd reason. Now the linux-based part of the install fails instead.

Yep, ubuntu-7.04-beta-alternate-i386.iso is what got downloaded by wubi-7.04-beta-v2. Doesn't seem to like NTFS!  |

I have gotten wubi to work fairly nicely, but I always have to move the installed directory to d:\ for some reason. Also, wubi is strictly for fesity fawn and not edgy so no LMCE until someone ports it over. |

Both NTFS, so NTFS is fine. Fragemented drive can be bad though, and try just moving the directory to another partition. Works for me  |

Humm, well I don't have a 2nd partition - unless I use a USB stick, but I could try a defrag.

Ok,
I did a defrag and all the Wubi files couldn't be dealt with. So I deleted EVERYTHING to do with Wubi and defragged again. Reinstalled Wubi and Bingo! It works!
So, it would seem that a defrag before installation is a REALLY good idea!
I hope that helps somebody!
