This thread will gather together tip/suggestions relating to Dianemo's new ZoneMinder security camera functionality. If your thinking of upgrading your exisitng Dianemo X86 installation, purchasing a Dianemo X86 license or Dianemo-Rpi2 and Zoneminder is on your radar as one of features you are excitied about then this thread will be where I post useful information for you.

My first tip is about cameras; Zoneminder can use a wide range of cameras including analog, direct connect USB and IP models. The biggest hurdle you are faced when adding cameras to ZoneMinder is determining the url and options that the camera supports. For some reason camera manufacturers always seem to omit that crucual information from their documentation with the end result being a lot of experimentation and googling to find what url's and features are supported and what shape the url should take. A good place to look for the url for your camera is here;

http://www.ispyconnect.com/sources.aspx

We will be maintain a section of the wiki to provide a central place where Camera configuration details can be collected together (if you have any for specific camera models then please let me know). I will post information here about the Wiki section shortly.

Best

ONVIF Device Discovery Coming in Zoneminder 1.29
« Reply #1 on: May 17, 2015, 10:49:16 pm »
In Dianemo X86 for Ubuntu 1404LTS we currently integrate Zoneminder 1.28.1. Zoneminder currently has good support for ONVIF compliant cameras but it has no in built ability to discover ONVIF Cameras on the LAN. ONVIF Cameras today have to be added manually and each camera needs a different setup to access its video stream.

However in Zoneminder 1.29 we should see in-built ONVIF device discovery which will make adding cameras far simpler than it is today. A simple click on any of the discovered cameras will add them to your system. We don't know when Zoneminder 1.29 will be released but we will update to it as soon as we can after its release.

All the best

« Reply #2 on: May 21, 2015, 07:15:06 pm »
We now have support for Clearview and Acti IP Cameras in rtsp mode in Dianemo X86 14.04LTS. As far as we can tell this compatibility will cover all current models from either company.

Zoneminder Camera Configuration Service
« Reply #3 on: May 21, 2015, 07:31:00 pm »
If you are having problems getting an IP Camera or Cameras added to Dianemo X86 14.04LTS in Zoneminder, or would simply like them added for you to save time, then we can help. For a flat cost of $60 USD we will provide 2 hours of Remote Support to get your camera models working - or indeed any other aspect of Zoneminder config. Two hours is normally enough time to add between 6-10 cameras (if they are straightforward).

We can't guarantee to get every camera working - some have proven to be 'challenging' to say the least. But if you let us know the make/model of your cameras we will let you know if any are one's we've found difficult to add. About 80% of the cameras we've tried to configure have been successfully added.

If your interested in help with your cameras or have a question re cameras then get in touch by PM or email to inquiries@ellipticalcurve.com

All the best

Zoneminder performance on Dianemo X86 14.04LTS
« Reply #5 on: May 29, 2015, 07:04:54 pm »
Just a quick update on Zoneminder and the kind of processor load you can expect; We seeing, and receiving feedback from customers, that with a modern I7 based Dianemo X86 NC/Core equipped with modern IP based cameras, careful configuration of cameras features/setup and zones (the areas of a video image that are processed for motion detection) its easily possible to run 10-12 cameras in 'modect' mode and only see about 15-20% processor load from ZM.

This is an incredible performance gain over our previous Dianemo X86 12.04LTS Kmotion based installations on the same hardware.

If you have any performance stats you'd like to share for ZM post them here of PM me.

Clearview IP PTZ-889 - Configuration
« Reply #6 on: June 02, 2015, 03:42:45 pm »
I've posted below the rtsp configuration information for the Clearview IP PTZ-889 as several users have asked about setting up Clearview cameras on their Dianemo X86 14.04LTS installations. This configuration should work for most current Clearview cameras (let me know if it doesn't);

Remote Method: RTSP/Unicast

Source Path: rtsp://user:password@<IP address>:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0

Hello,

I wonder if Zoneminder is integrated in same way as motion - that means that quad view and view camera screens work ?

Thanks in advance,
regards,

Bulek.

No currently it is not as ZM does not use motion. It is integrated into the Athena UI though, with Quad and individual cameras views, and it can also manage far more cameras for less load on the CPU than a motion based system can.

Is there any way to get ZM to use motion? Some kind of hack maybe?

Venna,

the original author of this thread is no longer working on this forum, nor is Dianemo. LinuxMCE is not using ZoneMinder, so you might find better answers on a Zoneminder related forum.
