LMCE 1404 Initial Install Notes for Core/Hybrid system.

(1/5) > >>

pigdog:
Hi guys,

1) I did not select "Install this third party software".

2) Under computer name "Geforce-8000-series-invalid-entry-length-0-DMI-table-is-broken-Stop" message received.
   Same on 12.04 install.

3) Liked the return of "please remove installation media and close the tray (if any) then press ENTER:".

4) Selected *Ubuntu on Gnu Grub menu.

4) Ooooh - fancy glowy kubuntu!

5) System booted temporarily into kubuntu desktop - then restarted with Grub memu.  Selected *Ubuntu.

6. Received network messages (including 60 seconds and booting without full network).

7) Got AVWizard after selecting initial screen size got lots of error message...
systemd-udevd[XXXXX]:failed to execute 'lib/udev/socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event' 'socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event': No such file or directory

8) DVI/HDMI (first choice) with analog audio selected.

   Screen ratio:       16:9
   Video output:      DVI
   Video resolution:   720p
   Video refresh:      60
   Audio connector:   Analog Stereo
Dolby sound test passed: not available
DTS sound test passed: not available

9) Upon "I agree" again got lots of...
systemd-udevd[XXXXX]:failed to execute 'lib/udev/socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event' 'socket:0/org/freedesktop/hal/udev_event': No such file or directory

10) Then...

    0
    ConfirmDependencies Install is running
    ConfirmDependencies Install is done
    InstallNewDevice is running

    ...looking good.  Wait for it...

... after 32 minutes on my system received LMCE installation screens.

11) After 2 hours I'm still waiting for Sarah to say "hello".

I opened a terminal window - OK that works.

The first thing reported by the dcerouter login: ConfirmDependencies buildall is running.

    I logged in.  It worked.

    Running 3.13.0-24-generic.  Have name@dcerouter:~$ prompt.

Logged in as root.  Have dcerouter_1:~# prompt.  Switched back to F7 - nothing, then back to F1.

Did top - flipped around between top, asterisk, ksoftirqd/0, mysqld, StorageDevices_, rcu_sched, etc. but nothing hogging the cpu.

Nothing ran as a heavy user.  Nothing of the conssistant programs ran above 1%.

12) I will let the system run for up to 4 hours.  At that point I will reboot to see if anything develops.

Oh! Just great.  I lost power.

System is restarting.  Booting without full network configuration.

I'll save this now, just in case I get dumped again.

Cheers.

pigdog:
Hi,

I think the delay is @ skins are being generated.

I can't get to Sara until the skins are done.  I'll let it run to see what happens.

pigdog:
Hi,

I let it go for five hours and still no skins generated and no Sarah.

Since everyone was complaining about their computers/phones/etc. not being able to connect to the internet and ifconfig reported messed up eth0/eth1 (plus I couldn't get into webadmin to swap the network interfaces), I physically switched network interfaces.

I then cold booted the system (PSU power off).

kubuntu did not complain about the network.

Screens were generated.

I got the setup wizard screen but I could not see or hear Sarah.  The wizard did recycle (restart - flash).

I completed the wizard unaided by Sarah.

eth0 came up as 192.168.1.64 and eth1 came up as 192.168.80.1

Everyone still could not connect to the network.  (I could - I laughed ha ha you evil wrong doers, justice has prevailed - they were not amused).

Quite a few packages failed to download, I didn't catch them all, the Complaint Department was busy.

Here's some that failed.

Failed to get LinPhone library.
Failed to get Debian Font Manager
Failed to get MNG library
Failed to get Pluto MythTV Player

They did try multiple attempts to download.

The main menu came up.

I'm going to shutdown and get everyone back online before proceeding.

Cheers.

Marie.O:
Thanks for your notes, and please keep on testing.

pigdog:
Hi,

Power up the system.  Got the main menu.
Opened a terminal and did apt update/upgrade.
Patched around the NO_PUBKEY message for download.videolan.org.
Did an apt-get autoremove to get rid of some non required packages.  Saw some MythTV issues and rebooted.
Did update/upgrade.  Update ran clean.  Upgrade reported 2 not fully installed or removed.

When I did the upgrade this was the overall error message.

The system xorg.conf is defaulted to the "nouveau" driver.

Via the main menu Advanced>KDE Desktop - worked.

I powered up my NAS (DNS-323) for autodetection.

It was discovered and LMCE added my file shares.

Software discovery was re-kicked and the following tried to download...

asterisk-perl
linphone library
EXIF/IPTC metadate maniplulation library
QT GUI library MT v3
Debian Font Manager
MNG library
Pluto MythTV Player
Pluto MythTV Plugin
CIFS Utils (Old SAMBA Utils)

...these all reported failed to get, recycled a couple of times until "Installing software finished". appeared.

Configuring NAS1 message received.

I got "Quick reload router" request, screens regenerated.

I eneter username/password.  Screens are not flickering like on 12.04.

When things settled down I rebooted. (Sorry, experienced with Windows.)

Screens regenerated.

Media>Videos alive.

Advanced>Computing>Web Admin good.  Edited Software modules to Disk Drive and Videolan client - checked.

Downloading CIFS Utils (Old SAMBA Utils) with previous packages...
asterisk-perl
linphone library
EXIF/IPTC metadate maniplulation library
QT GUI library MT v3
Debian Font Manager
MNG library
Pluto MythTV Player
Pluto MythTV Plugin

...presented again.  Failed again.

CDDB library new.
libdvdread
libdvdnav4
LAMEPluto Disk Drive
id-my-disc
Some pluto function I missed.

Quick reload router/screens regenerated for oribiter.

Neighbour wants a beer (me too!).

Will try Hardware acceleration - xv, no Deinterlace Quality, Standard Video Card tests later.

Cheers
