New user Where to start

Hey everyone.

I am new to Linux and MCE. I just wanted to say hello and apologize for the VERY SIMPLE questions I will be asking.

Here is my goal. I am running Lunix in a virtual box on my Windows 7 desktop.

I want to learn MCE and how things work in order to control my new mountain home. Im talking:

Video
Phone
Heat and AC
TV
Music
Security

Please Assume I know nothing because I do not yet.

Looking forward to this project.
