apt-get update fails on radvd.conf line 2
« on: October 29, 2011, 06:02:58 pm »
I just did an apt-get update/upgrade on my 8.10 core to fix an issue I had, and it fails to complete the upgrade.  When I run it again, I get the following:

dcerouter_1017654:~# apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  freepbx
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
After this operation, 0B of additional disk space will be used.

Setting up radvd (1:1.3-1.1) ...

dpkg: error processing radvd (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 radvd
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

When I look into /etc/radvd.conf, it is empty..  How can I resolve this?

Thanks,

Hi !

radvd.conf can not really be empty when it shows an error at line 2.
Empty means not even a blank line...

Empty or nonexistent radvd.conf files are ignored without an error.

Try to simply remove /etc/radvd.conf and retry your apt-get command ...

I also had this problem. I followed these instructions and removed the blank radvd.conf file and the install completed but I got the message radvd would not be started because of the missing conf file.

Don't think this is system critical though.

Yes, the open ticket is for backporting. It is fixed in 10.04 for some month now, but it is still not backported to 8.10 ...
